Al-Hallaq: The prices did not decrease despite the decline in the dollar ... the absence of competition

Member of the Board of Directors of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce, Muhammad Al-Hallaq, stated that the role of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce is limited to educating the Chamber's affiliates, and developing their national spirit, to contribute to standing with the citizen in light of this crisis.

As for the high prices and the imbalance in the supply of materials, which does not coincide with the return of the improvement of the lira by more than 25%, Hallak explained that the reason for this is the narrow circle of competition, especially in light of the difficult circumstances the country is going through, indicating the difficulty of the import process for several reasons Among them are external ones, which are war and the economic blockade. As for the internal reasons, they are some legislations and decisions issued by the government, such as the recent decision issued by the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade, which obliges the trader to put 40% of the value of the imported goods with government banks.

Al Hallaq explained that the Chamber asked the government several times to increase the number of workers in the commercial sector and allow them to import, noting that the more workers in this sector, the more quantities of supplies of materials of different types will increase, and therefore their prices will decrease, stressing that this is the best solution to a problem High prices and imbalances in the forces of supply in the market.

For his part, the Secretary of the Consumer Protection Association, Abd al-Rahman Habza, believed that the reason for the imbalance in the markets was the lack of low prices for materials despite the low exchange rate of the dollar against the lira.

As for controlling the prices of materials, Habza confirmed that prices will not be stable and fall before the stability of exchange rates, which will create a state of reassurance among traders, noting the role of the Syrian Trade Corporation and its positive intervention in the market through food baskets, explaining that the insurance of these goods was from the 15% To which the decision of the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade obligated merchants.
