4 kilometers southwest of the city of Tartus, the island known as (Arwad) is located.
This island was known since the second millennium BC as (Ardudu), as it played an important role on the road between Egypt and the country of (Assyria), and later it was an important port of Phenicia on the Syrian coast, but during the Greek ages it was known as (Arado).
Access to the island is available by riding wooden boats that depart from the city (Tartus) to the island from time to time, where the journey takes about a quarter of an hour.
