Damascus Countryside Chamber of Industry Discusses Reviving Gas Pipeline Project to Support Industrial Facilities
The Energy and Natural Gas Committee of the Damascus Countryside Chamber of Industry held an extensive meeting headed by Mr. Moataz Tarabichi, Vice President of the Chamber. The meeting, attended by Mr. Adham Al-Tabbaa and Engineer Muhammad Balloul from the Syrian Gas Company, focused on securing factory needs and developing energy infrastructure.
Mr. Tarabichi praised the cooperation with the Ministry of Energy, emphasizing that securing gas for industrial facilities would directly contribute to restoring production pace and reducing operational costs. The meeting reviewed the gas pipeline project, which has been suspended since 2012; factories in the area from Deir Ali to Al-Kiswah require approximately 140,000 cubic meters of gas daily.
Engineer Muhammad Balloul explained that the project spans 21 km with a 20-inch diameter, noting that its implementation requires significant investment and precise logistical studies. In conclusion, the committee proposed financing alternatives, including cooperation with international organizations like the UNDP, establishing a public joint-stock company, or partnering with foreign firms such as the Qatari UCC Company
