Hepatitis means hepatitis. Viral hepatitis is a virus-induced hepatitis. To date, five types of viral hepatitis have been identified, each caused by a different virus. In the United States, hepatitis A, hepatitis B and hepatitis C are the most common types. Hepatitis A is caused by the hepatitis A virus (in Latin HAV), hepatitis B is caused by the hepatitis B virus (or HBV) hepatitis C is caused by the hepatitis C virus (or HCV).
