A grain shipment from Russia to Syria

Russia intends before the end of this week to send a grain shipment of 25 thousand tons to Syria, as part of humanitarian aid for this war-torn country.

The shipment of grain will be from the Russian port of Novorossiysk, and this payment represents a quarter of what is planned to be sent to Syria under an agreement between Moscow and Damascus.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Yuri Borisov, said that the dispatch of the ship depends on weather factors, noting that he started shipping grain from storage sites to the port since December 9.

The official added that it is planned to ship up to 100,000 tons of grain until next May.

Borisov announced last week, during his meeting with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, that Moscow would provide Damascus with 100,000 tons of grain in the form of humanitarian aid, noting that the grain shipment operations will continue until the second quarter of 2020.
