The project of rehabilitating the old Homs markets ends its third stage
The Directorate of Antiquities in Homs Governorate has completed the third stage of the project to rehabilitate and restore the old city’s markets that have been sabotaged by terrorist attacks.
The project is being implemented in cooperation between the governorate of Homs and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Square meters have been rehabilitated and the construction of some of them, taking into account the archaeological and historical status, such as stone facades and the restoration of destroyed stones.
He also pointed out that the fourth phase, if completed, will cover the mass of the remaining markets in addition to some of the surrounding streets such as Al Qasimi and Al Naswan streets, stressing that the return of shop owners will have a positive impact on the economic movement.
Hamish said that the directorate started in cooperation with the Homs City Council late last month to work on the restoration and reconstruction of the fence in the forty neighborhood, which has been affected by terrorist attacks, stressing that the restoration work will end early next year with the towers located within it from the north and west, while maintaining the re-show this archaeological landmark Two meters high and the same black basalt stones that were sorted from the rubble.
He added that the directorate also completed partial rehabilitation of some of the guard rooms in the Palmyra National Museum with the Hammamet Block to meet the needs of visitors worth 3 million pounds. The Turkmen neighborhood and the preparation of a study to re-open the Homs Museum note that the ambulance and restoration work on securing the warehouses of artifacts to receive them has been completed.
